5 Ways to Personalise your Care Suite

Our residential care homes are fully furnished but often we find the best way to help new residents settle in and feel at home is to personalise their rooms how they want.

Moving from your home to a care home is a huge transition as well as an emotional time. A complete change of surroundings, new neighbours and care staff on hand 24/7 the transition can often be very overwhelming.

Surround yourself with familiar items

Make your suite feel like home by bringing familiar items from home this can be your favourite soft furnishings, ornaments from past holidays small pieces of furniture and family photographs.

Some of the best ways to make yourself at home are to even bring things like your favourite comfy slippers.
Bringing these familiar items helps new residents settle into their environment more quickly.

A pop of colour

You sadly won’t be able to paint the walls of your new care home but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring in some colour with soft furnishings, ornaments and flowers.
Warm tones can make a space feel not only homely but also cosy. Keep an eye out for cushions and throws in these colours:

Scents and your space

Using things such as reed diffusers, scented drawer liners or pot pourii can separate your suite from the rest of the house allowing it to feel far more at home.
A smell can trigger memories creating a warming, cosy feeling, look for reed diffusers with notes of vanilla, deep florals or woody scents.

Cosy Soft Furnishings

Adding a variety of soft furnishing in different textures can ensure that your suite is homely and cosy.
Add decorative cushions and cosy throws as well as cushions with warm and bright colours to make your room extra inviting,
mix up textures knitted, fleece, furry and velvet textures to add extra depth.

Create a family photo collage

Surrounding yourself with familiar imagery and loved ones ensures you feel at home. You may not be living with family but its nice to ensure you can see their faces every day.
